To execute the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of equipment in the Diesel Plant Fitting trade to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Requirements
Five O-level passes including English, Mathematics, and Science.
National Craft Certificate (NCC) or National Certificate (NC) in Diesel Plant Fitting.
Journeyman Class 1 Certificate in Diesel Plant Fitting.
Completed four years of Apprenticeship training in Diesel Plant Fitting.
At least five years post-apprenticeship experience as a Diesel Plant Fitter.
Strong technical knowledge of heavy plant equipment, particularly Caterpillar machines.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
KEY RESULT AREAS
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
Maintenance & Repairs
Maintaining and repairing equipment using appropriate maintenance technologies to ensure optimum availability and reliability.
Verifying planned maintenance schedules and recommending amendments where necessary.
Carrying out inspections, identifying defects, diagnosing faults, and determining spare parts, labour, and tools required.
Conducting scheduled and unscheduled installations, repairs, and overhauls in compliance with engineering standards and procedures.
Technical & Operational Support
Providing technical information to support cost control and resource optimisation.
Interpreting equipment performance characteristics and recommending corrective action.
Inspecting and assessing work carried out by apprentices and maintenance operatives.
Planning & Workflow Coordination
Obtaining relevant permits and conducting risk assessments before commencing work.
Prioritising and planning work and providing information for the development of work schedules.
Providing updates to the supervisor on work in progress to ensure effective workflow.
Administration & Reporting
Completing all administrative tasks in line with company procedures to ensure clear audit trails.
Maintaining an up-to-date information management system.
Compiling reports and statistics as required.
Safety, Health & Environment
Adhering to all SHE policies and procedures, and ensuring compliance with the Mines and Minerals Act within the area of responsibility.
